9 months old

Nine months went by a whoooole lot slower when you were in my belly.

This month has been a lot of fun. It’s been so interesting to watch you learn how to do all the new things you seem to pick up everyday. All the things we take for granted on a day-to-day basis, such as clapping our hands, seem so much more momentous when you finally do them. Seriously, the first time we saw you clap, you would have thought we were going to throw you a parade or something.

We had a rough start to the month with your sleeping habits, but right as we were about to bust out a can of sleep training on you, you seemed to settle back into a rhythm we can all live with. Unfortunately, you are still not sleeping through the night, but I will take a single wake up at 4am and back to sleep until 7:30am over 4-5 wake up/screamfests any day. We’ve had a few setbacks of course, but it really does seem like you are getting better at putting yourself back down if you wake up. Especially since I stopped rocking you to sleep and just putting you down when you are tired.

You’re still babbling up a storm. I heard you say “mama” the other day, but it was when I was sucking out your nose with the nasal aspirator and you were in the middle of a mind-numbing scream. It was more like a “maaaaaaammmmaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!”. But of course, I’ll take it. “Dada”, “baba” and “uh-ooohh” are still your favorites.

You’re also fond of screaming, grunting and growling like a monster, which you seem to do a lot lately.  It’s a little odd, but pretty funny to hear you growl like a grizzly bear. I growl back at you, which of course, you find totally hilarious.

You’re still love to eat and officially love every food we give you. I know this will change, but I am happy that you finally like green foods again. You get pretty bored after a few minutes of pureed foods and just want to feed yourself now, which is totally fine by me. You love potatoes, pears, bananas,  blueberries, mixed veggies, pancakes, turkey, cheese…pretty much anything we put in front of you. Of course,  when I take you out of the high chair, 75% of what you “ate” is sitting in your lap.

Other fun things:

Your two bottom teeth are poking through, finally. I was getting worried we were going to have to buy you dentures before you started high school.

You are spending a ton of time on your belly and getting closer to figuring out how to crawl. However, you just end up going backwards and are usually frustrated when we find you grunting in the corner of a room. Just so you know, no one puts baby in a corner, but you.

You LOVE touchy-feely board books this month. You are also getting better at playing with more “interactive” toys.

You love music and dancing. You giggle like crazy when I dance around the kitchen with you to old Beatles songs and when I sing you Christmas carols, you bop up and down uncontrollably. You also love banging on your tambourine. Which is super-cute now…maybe not so much later. We’ll see.

I watched you pull yourself up to standing in the crib the other day. Looks like we need to figure out how to lower that thing, pronto.

You’re reaching for us all the time. Then again, you reach for anything: the Christmas tree, a picture on the wall, a door knob, a dust bunny rolling across the floor… Of course, you seem to reach for us with much more enthusiasm. At least, that’s what we tell ourselves.

The list of “firsts” just keeps getting bigger and bigger, faster and faster these days. It’s so much fun to watch you experience life with such enthusiasm and interact with us more and more as the days roll on. Every day I’m amazed at how much bigger my heart seems to grow.

Love you little girl. Happy nine months.
