Yesterday, we took Quinn to her very first Phillies game!
Our good friends, Mark, Karen and Landon, got their hands on 4 free tickets and gave us a call to see if we wanted to take our kids to their first Phillies game together (kids under 3 are free). I have been dying to take Quinn since even before she was born, but thought we missed our window since we completely skipped over the baby period. The thought of sitting with a squirmy 2 year old on my lap during a hot summer day squished between thousands of people never sounded too appealing.
But, we decided to brave it out anyway knowing that we probably wouldn’t get to see most of the game. I’m so glad we did. We had a great time. Both kids were so good.
It was a 1:30pm game so we decided to meet them there a little late so Quinn could finish her nap. We got there around the 3rd inning, which was perfect since there was no traffic to get in and we just immediately walked up with no problem. We found Mark, Karen and Landon and by the time we caught up with each other and got up to our seats, it was the middle of the 5th inning - just in time to see Cliff Lee hit a RBI double and Jimmy Rollins hit a home run.
Quinn sat on my lap and enjoyed looking out over the field. She kept screaming out for the Phanatic and was excited when he finally came out and shot tshirts into the crowd. She asked a lot of questions during the game. Like, when a player was trying to steal 2nd base and the pitcher would throw back to first and almost get him out, she would say, “Uh oh, what happened?” When I would try to explain what was happening, she would ask, “But why?” When Jimmy Rollins hit the home run and everyone stood up and cheered, she “shuushed” everyone, but still clapped. Ha.
She was great. She didn’t squirm once or complain, she just looked around and took it all in.
Eventually, we decided to get up and walk around (find food). Citizen’s Bank Park is known for it’s great food and kid’s entertainment. While she and Landon were a little too young for the playground, they did enjoy running around eating hot dogs, ice cream and Chickie’s and Pete’s crab fries. Of course, so did the adults.
And to top it all off, the Phillies won.
It was the perfect first game experience and she has been asking to go back ever since. Thanks again Karen, Mark and Landon!
